Frequently Asked Questions

What do Woodie Worx holds use for texture?
The grip texture is not given by sand or other material, but rather by the surface of the original prototype for the hold. This texture is replicated in the hold mould and transferd to the final product.

Urethane v Polyester what is the difference?
Of late there has been a lot of debate about which material is better for rock climbing holds. Well the short answer is urethane, for a number of reasons. Urethane is a newer lighter technology that exhibits greater strength and wear properties than polyester allowing more innovative and longer lasting holds. Urethane is also non-toxic, safer for the hold maker and climber. Just ask anyone using ploy ester how nasty the manufacturing process is. The only down side is that urethane is slightly more expensive. But is is a small price to pay to protect your investment.

How can I attach holds to a brick wall?
A common way is to use an anchor called a "drop in." They are inserted into a hole drilled in the brick then the bolt expands the anchor as it is screwed in. Another method is to use construction adhesive to glue the holds to the wall. Both these methods are very destructive to the wall and not recommended by Woodie Worx. A far better and more versatile way is to attach a sheet of ply via frame work to the wall with dyna-bolts or similar anchors. Then use t-nuts as you would on a normal woodie. Don’t forget to allow space behind the ply for the ends of your hold bolts. You must get someone qualified to check the structural soundness of the wall you are using,

Which holds are good for my kids playground?
The best and most popular holds for a kids playground are easy to hold jugs or incut holds like the ones from ATOMIK. The set of 10 incut screw on holds are popular because they can be fitted to existing wooden equipment and even trees. They are easy to hold and not rough on young hands.

How should I paint my woodie?
DON'T! At least not the climbing surface of your woodie. Normal paint makes the holds either slip or stick like glue! Textured paint just wears your shoes and hurts your hands, leave that for the real rock. Feel free to paint the non-climbing surfaces.

What is the cheapest way to get holds and hardware to start a woodie?
Buy a starter set like the Great 108 pack or the 50 holds set with t-nuts.

If you have any other questions at all just ask. Woodie Worx will be glad to help.
