THE HANGER

A woodie creation by Ken

After the demise of my original free standing woodie, I was left with an empty feeling in my life and just had to fill it with another woodie.

This time I decided to build it in the garage. A garage woodie has some advantages over a freestanding one. You don't have to worry about rain, less costly, more stable. However my ute no longer fits in that side of the garage! The "Hanger" is a true woodie. No steel involved.

Luckily my garage is built so that the structure of the garage was easy to use in the design of my new woodie. I ran LVL joists between the two main bearers of the roof and then diagonal support frames at about 50 degrees. This gave enough face area for three panels. Two at 50 degrees and one on the roof. The result is one solid woodie.

The finishing touches include old holds combined with new holds from Woodie Worx, some big futon mattresses for crash mats, heaps of chalk and shelving behind the wall for gear.

Photos of before, during and the woodie machine Bundy on the finished product in a haze of chalk dust!

Now there is lighting, a vertical side wall and a finish board.
